Bobath/ Neurodevelopmental Therapy Advanced Paediatric Courses

Following the completion of the Bobath/NDT Basic paediatric 8 week course it is highly recommended that therapists continually update their knowledge and skills. This can be achieved through attending advanced courses. SANDTA offers two levels of advanced courses: Advanced Level l and Advanced Level ll These courses are only open to therapists who have successfully completed the Bobath/NDT Basic paediatric 8 week course.

 

ADVANCED LEVEL l:
 
This course is aimed at updating and refreshing knowledge and skills gained during an 8-week paediatric Bobath/NDT course. Length of the course 5 – 7 days.
 
WHO IS THE COURSE FOR?
 
The course is open to therapists who have completed their basic course more than five years ago, or have been out of the field of paediatric neurology for a while since completing the basic course. Any other Bobath/NDT trained therapists who merely feel they need to refresh their skills and knowledge are welcome.
 
CERTIFICATION:
 
An attendance certificate and CPD points are issued by SANDTA. Full attendance is required.

Aims and objectives
 
AIMS:
 
To refresh and update the skills and knowledge of Bobath/NDT trained therapists
 
OBJECTIVES:
 
  1. To improve participants evidence based clinical reasoning skills.
  2. To look at the developments and changes of the Bobath/NDT
  3. To refresh the use of the International Classification of Function and Disability (ICF) as a framework of assessment and intervention planning,
  4. To apply the use of standardized tests along with observations.
  5. To refresh setting realistic measureable goals with the child and family.
  6. To introduce refresh and update any relevant aspects of Occupational and Speech Therapy in Bobath/NDT
  7. To improve handling skills.
 
FORMAT:
 
Lectures, clinical sessions, treatment demonstrations, groupwork and videos.
 
 
 
 
ADVANCED LEVEL ll:
 
These courses are topic specific and the advertisements for such courses will outline the topic, aims and objectives. Length of advanced level ll courses is determined by the course leader, but is usually between 5 – 10 contact days.
 
Examples of topics are: Early assessment and intervention (Baby Course); Facilitation; Focus on a specific classification of CP; Upper Extremity; Lower Extremity; Breathing, voicing and articulation in children with CP; Visual problems in children with CP.
 
The aim of these courses is to provide new and in depth knowledge of the specific topic.
 
WHO ARE THESE COURSES FOR?
 
These courses are open to therapists who have successfully completed the 8 week basic Bobath/NDT course. It is recommended, but not a prerequisite that at least one year has elapsed since completion of the Bobath/NDT Basic paediatric 8 week course.
 
CERTIFICATION:
 
An attendance certificate and CPD points are issued by SANDTA. Full attendance is required.
