Online Refresher Course

This course is aimed at updating and refreshing knowledge and skills gained during the NDT Foundation Paediatric Course. It consists of the modules that are currently presented online in the Foundation Course. The online course runs over a period of two months and has four components TCD, neuroscience, Classification and The Bobath concept. It also requires attendance at 2 Zoom tutorials. It requires approximately 40 hours to complete the online portion with a further 3 hours for the tutorial attendance.

Course Aim

To refresh and update the theoretical knowledge underpinning the principles of NDT

Who is the course for?

The course is open to therapists who have completed their Foundation Course more than five years ago, or have been out of the field of paediatric neurology for a while since completing the foundation course. Any other NDT trained therapists who merely feel they need to refresh their knowledge are welcome.

Course Format

An online course consisting of lectures, videos, and articles to read. A quiz needs to be successfully completed at the end of each section. 2 Zoom tutorials.

Course Objectives

  • To provide a framework for the holistic assessment of children with cerebral palsy
  • To provide a brief review of the classification of the main types of cerebral palsy
  • To introduce analysis and problem solving as the basis of intervention
  • To develop participants’ clinical reasoning and handling skills
  • To guide participants in developing a plan of care with appropriate posture and movement goals (24 hour postural management)
  • To highlight the use of objects/toys to facilitate levels of play by exploration
  • To demonstrate to participants how to relate a child’s functional activities and activity limitations to his/her participations restriction
  • To provide guidelines on parent training and home management during activities of daily living
  • To introduce the impact of visual impairment on function
  • To describe typical eating and drinking problems experienced by children with CP and introduce principles and skills to address eating and drinking problems
  • To review typical communication problems experience by children with CP and discuss principles of intervention
